St Joseph's Hospital St Joseph’s Hospital is a public hospital providing rehabilitation and aged care services and is part of the NSW public health care system. St Joseph ’s Village is a residential aged care facility funded by the Commonwealth Government. In 1886 the Sisters of Charity established St Joseph’s Hospital at Parramatta to treat tuberculosis patients. In 1892, St Joseph’s Parramatta moved to Duncraggon Hall at Auburn, accommodating 14 patients. Today the Hospital has 81 beds including medical and aged care rehabilitation, palliative care, psychiatry for the aged as well as day hospital outpatient facilities and an aged care assessment component. The Hospital has a proud tradition of providing quality health care in a compassionate and caring environment. Responding to the needs of the community, St Joseph ’s is committed to providing holistic care for inpatients and outpatients, through its specialised units. The 19-bed Catherine Mahoney Unit for Aged Care Psychiatry and Neurosciences provides psychosocial assessment and care for older people suffering from psychiatric illness. The St Elizabeth Aged Care Assessment & Rehabilitation Unit is a 20-bed inpatient unit for elderly patients with disabilities resulting from illnesses such as stroke, fractured hips or for those undergoing rehabilitation following surgery. |

In Medical Rehabilitation, the 20-bed St Luke's Inpatient Unit and the Theodore Keating Outpatient Unit provide specialised rehabilitation services. The 22-bed St Camillus Palliative Care Inpatient Unit and Harry Kramer Palliative Care Day Hospital offer an integrated multidisciplinary approach to the care of people with a life-limiting illness.
Additional support available to patients includes liaison with local community health services; bereavement and spiritual support; and medical outreach services. The Aged Care Assessment Team assesses older people who may need increased support in their home or admission to an aged care facility.

St Joseph's Village |
St Joseph's Village St Joseph’s Village opened in 1991 and stands adjacent to St Joseph’s Hospital in Auburn and is a skilfully designed community of self-care units and serviced apartments. It has 107 apartments subsidised by the Commonwealth Government and a 10-bed dementia elderly unit. Permanent and respite accommodation is available. Responding to a need in the community, St Joseph’s Village provides high quality care and accommodation protecting the health and wellbeing of residents, ensuring access and affordability, allowing flexibility and responsiveness of services to individual needs. St Joseph’s Village is open to anyone over the age of 55 years who is seeking security and, at the same time, an independent way of life. |
St Joseph’s Village and St Joseph’s Hospital are managed as one Campus, so residents of the Village can share the facilities of the whole Campus.
